The tiny Venezuelan restaurant called Caracas is exceptional (5/5). This is the second best restaurant in New York after Il Mulino although it is just a small shack in the west village. Run don't walk!

We arrived in Strasbourg and tucked into a Choucroute which is a giant mound of cabbage covered in meat and sausage at Les Tanneurs (5/5 if you like that sort of thing).
Dinner was at the world reknowned Crocodile where someone brought a CROC back from a war and hung it in a pub which is now this 2 star restaurant (lost a star recently). The owner Emile Jung is absolutely charming and despite some lousy bread served a great dinner. Maria had an epic smoked steak while I had a meatloaf made from pig foot and ear that surely shaved 3 years off of my life. On to Illehausen where the famous 3 star restauarant has been in the family for 100 years. The setting on the side of the river was really unbelievable. It started by cheating with a black truffle covered in foie gras and fried and then covered in truffle sauce. Anyone can do that and make it taste good! The chicken for two was dull and covered in the same sauce as the truffle ball which is a no-no (2/5).
Colmar was beautiful and we had typical alsacean cooking at Hansi who's restaurant is decorated by Hansi art who is an alsacian Norman Rockwell. Up the valley we went stopping at Table de Gourmet in Riqwhir for a very creative one star lunch (3/5) before going on to Le Clos de St Vincent which is one of the most beautiful vineyard hotels in the world. We could have stayed a week.
The last night's dnner in Obernai was the best at 1 star Saveurs (5/5) which served the most creative cooking possible from vegetarian to rack of goat to fresh baked bread from the next town over (Roshheim). This deserves 3 Michelin stars and should not be missed.
In general the food was pretty good but we learned that while Asacian vineyards are beautiful, the wine is just average. Also Ascace has Munster but the rest of the cheeses are just not that great.

Las Vegas is total crap with all restaurants being expensive imitations of sacred originals elsewhere. Fake Eiffel towers, fake pyramids and fake gourmet restaurants - Alain Ducaisse (2/5), Joel Robuchon 2/5) (supposedly with 3 Michelin stars!!!!), Wolfgang Puck (2/5) and other pretenders. Your best off going to Prime staek house (3/5) for good old meat and potatoes.

San franciscohas a swish, trendy new hangout. The cooking is boring old continental European done brilliantly. Nothing sounds that great but when it arrives it it really is good. The esteemed Mr Longworth has invested so I brought 11 guests as Guy is a bootstrapping internet entrepreneur at this time. Good stuff!

This is a small but beautiful island. It's a headache to drive/walk to the best beacheds but they are really beautiful. Mahon is a great little village with the world's 2nd largest natural port (after Vancouver?). Even better is Fornells about 45 minutes away... one could easily buy a little island hut here.
Some of the best food experiences in the world are single item specialties and that is the case of Menorca. The national dish is a lobster stew called Caldereta and the best place to try it is in Fornells at a restaurant called Espla with the water lapping up near your feet. This dish is a real champion meeting or beating Paella's and Boullabiasses from the world over.

Ohshit Oishi! is 5/5. Let's start with the truth about sushi. It is the biggest scam in the world. The "restaurant hacks off a slab of fish...refuses to cook it...provides nothing more than some soy sauce and serves a lump of boiled white rice on the side and then claims to be the best (freshest) sushi in town. Come on...if it wasn't fresh it would kill you.. You CANNOT be serious. I like the stuff in the same way I like popcorn at the movies. Yet...in America...Sushi restaurants are listed in the top 3 of almost every Zagat city guide. Then there is Oishi sushi in Boston. They do all the same things but sometimes they cook things, they add all sorts of garnish and plenty of interesting sauces. This level of preparation actually requires a chef and it is great! I always liked Nobu because of the interesting hot plates that are in addition to the sushi. Here...I actually like the Sushi. I rate this the best sushi restaurant in the world (sorry Tokyo).

Like everything in Rome, eating is an historical event. Start at La Carbnarra where they invented Spaghetti Carbonarra and then move on to Alfredos where they invented Fetuccini Alfredo traditionally served with golden spoons. Then move up a notch to ore modern Italian in the Piazza Espana where Nino and my friend Niko’s favorite restaurant Porto Maltese are.and then finish at the 1 star restaurants on top of Hotel Eden or Splendido Royale. Finally, finish with a flourish at La Pergola on top of the Hilton for a 3 star extravaganza by a german chef!

For those who ski in Courchevel, the perennial question is which 2 star Michelin restaurant is better – the fancier Bateu Ivre or the cozier Chabichou. This was our 3rd time to both restaurants and the prize remains with the more modest Chabichou once again with a highlight being their truffled fondue soup!
