Diving the Florida Keys

Jenny and I went a couple of shallow water dives that were pleasant but not that exciting on their own...except...we were surrounded by sharks! and this was after the guide said there were never any sharks here. I want to go back and dive the fake ship wreck the Speigel in November.

Kingsbarns - A Scottish Dreamscape

Kingsbarn 100's of years of Links beauty and tradition has been overtaken by a 5 year old beauty which is 5 miles from the Old Course at St Andrews. Like Old Head in Ireland, this course will challenge you and take your breath away simultaneously.

Old Head - An Irish dreamscape

Old_head The finest piece of golf terrain in the world is basically a tennis racket that juts out into the ocean off of the south coast of Ireland. You drive out the racket handle and then play on the racket head which has just enough room for the club house and 18 holes. In the 19th hole you can order from the live lobster tank! I suppose Royal County Down is technically superior but, this is my favorite course in the world.

The best golf courses in the world

Art house movies are better than Hollywood movies and specialty restaurants are better than "gourmet" restaurants. In this vein...UK links golf is better than any other kind. Beautiful, challenging courses on the edge of the ocean made by god not bulldozers and with no carts allowed (if only they had beer ladies).

1. Royal County Down (near Belfast)

2. Royal Porthcawl (Wales)

3. Carnoustie (Scotland)

4. Royal Birkdale (Liverpool - which has 5 other great courses)

5. Old Head (Southern Ireland)

6. Kingsbarns (Near St Andrews)

Best wreck dive in the world

Thistle Diving in the Red Sea is great whereever you go but the wrck of the Thistlegorm in 80 feet of water is incredible with guns, tanks and hundreds of perfectly preserved motorcycles. Lot's of fish and perfect visibility too.

All of the best golf courses in the world are links courses in the UK like Royal County Down. In the Americas the best courses are (based on pain inflicted):

  1. Kiawah Island
  2. PGA West - Palm Springs
  3. Bethpage Black - Long Island
  4. Sand Hills - Nebraska
  5. Cabo Del Sol - Cabo San Lucas
