I vote Damian Rice's 2nd album 9 (5/5) album of the year just before throwing in the towel and voting for Beatles "Love" remix (4/5) by default because few great albums were recorded this year. Gnarls Barkley 4/5 was great and the 2nd Snow Patrol 4/5 was quite good. I still have to listen to a couple of Christmas gifts like Raconteurs but otherwise this was a musical year to forget. If anyone has a recommendation...please let me know and I will re-rate the record rankings!

That Cabo concert should be filmed and submitted for the annual raspberry awards...

I forgot to add to my 2007 "worth getting list - Jet, "Shine On". Great CD. Was a runner up for Best Sophomore CD!

Jeffrey,
I've heard a lot about you from Eloy. He forwarded me the link to your blog boasting that he had "invented" a new music award system (The "Leroy's"??) so I had to check it out.
Anyways, I'd have to agree that it hasn't been the most exciting year in music, although I was a big fan of both Amos Lee and Damien Rice as well as Angels & Airwaves. Also, I enjoyed John Mayer more than I like to admit. As for most disappointing... I'd take Keane over The Killers any day. That album really underwhelmed.
As a side note, I may have witnessed the most ridiculous, yet amazing, ensemble of performers this year in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony (Van Halen bassist), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer), and the one and only Michael Bolton. It was incredible, yet terrifying, all at once.
Cool website...

I agree with Jeffrey. It was an unmemorable year for new music. However, there were a few notables. I would like to give the 2006 awards for…
Best Debut CD by a band made from members from other famous bands: Angels & Airwaves – “We Don’t Need to Whisper”
Best Debut CD by a truly new band: Rookie of the Year: “The Goodnight Moon”
Best Sophomore CD: (Tied) Damien Rice – “9”; Amos Lee “Supply and Demand”
Best CD release from the grave: Johnny Cash – “American V: A Hundred Highways”
Best New Single: The Muse – “City of Delusion”
Best Cover Song: Mary J Blige – “One”
Best New single from an over-the-hill rocker: Bob Seger (w/ Kid Rock) – “Real Mean Bottle”
Best new CD that’s identical to all their other CDs (but still great!): Dashboard Confessional – “Dusk and Summer”
The “I can appreciate the effort, but it wasn’t all there” Award: (tied) John Mayer – “Continuum” and Scissor Sisters – “Tah-Dah”
Most Disappointing CD Release: The Killers - “Sam’s Town”
The big winner… THE BEST CD of 2006: The Muse – “Black Holes and Revelations”
Worth mentioning: Brandtson – “Hello, Control” and Decemberists – “The Crane Wife”
Let’s hope for the best in 2007
